Sounds like an energy drink, doesn't it?
In reality, when I talk of cell phone juice, I mean battery-powered, portable chargers. Of course, these type of devices aren't anything new. Back in February we talked about the Turbo Charge ($19.95) that charges your cell phone or PDA on the go. So, it doesn't surprise me that Energizer wants to play in the mobile-charging game, too.
Today, the company releases the Energizer Energi To Go: a portable device, powered by two Lithium AA batteries, that recharges many of today's cell phones using "a patented intelligent control chip that maximizes power transfer from the charger to the phone."
The company claims that after just 30 seconds of charging on the Energi To Go that a call can be made. Wow, that's pretty impressive! Sometimes I'll forget to charge my cell phone at night, and then have to save battery power for the important calls (you know, the ones from my bf). And then there are those times when I'll go away for the weekend and forget to bring a charger. So having a device such as this one would come in handy. Then again, it's not the end of the world for me if I do run out of cell juice. There are alternatives.
Phone tip connectors are available for about 100 phone models, including most from Nokia, Motorola, Sprint, and Samsung, even the BlackBerry.
The Energizer Energi To Go Cell Phone Charger will be available beginning September 1, 2006 for $19.99. The official Energi To Go Web site will launch on August 28.

although if you forget to pack your charger, chances are you'll forget this as well.

Haha so true, Lupe!! I'd probably forget this, too! I guess there is no hope for my forgetfulness. Unless of course, phone manufacturers develop chargers-on-a-rope.

I wonder if this signicantly reduces the battery life though? Woudln't a fast charge really heat the call phone battery up??
August 24, 2006 3:49 PM
I doubt if there would be enough heat build up to worry about.First of all, they said there would be enough power to make A CALL after 30 seconds. No info on how long to fully charge your phone or even if it will bring your battery up to full.Knowing Energizers reputation and their level of quality,I bet they tested this thing all to heck before releasing it.Look all the trouble Dell is in over batteries.I bet they were VERY careful about this.

Of course, the next step is a charger for the batteries in the "energi to go." Something else to carry.

The beauty of the turbo charge is that it uses any alkaline AA batteries. It may not let you make a call after just 30 seconds, but it will provide a full charge (as much as such is possible for a given battery) in a reasonable period of time. I've been in many parts of the world - as well as the US - where lithium AA's are few and far between.

Probably less for most phones to get a second aftermarket battery on eBay. Carry it charged in your pocket or purse, then just swap. Not even 30 seconds. And much more useful. Same place will probably get you another car or wall charger (or two) for a few bucks each. Put one in each car and one at work, then you're pretty well set.

Allan-- While it's true that with the Turbo Charge you can use any AA batteries, Energizer just "recommends" that you use Energizer e2 Lithium batteries for maximum performance with the Energi To Go. I mean, of course they are going to recommend their own batteries! LOL

Been happy with the Cellboost Instant Battery Power for Cell's,and others things. Wallgreen's has them on sale for $2.was $3.99. inside are 4 AAA no name chineese batteries and a 2 ohm 1/2 watt current limiting resistor.

If this is a problem all the time, buy another battery for the phone- or an extended battery! Also, what's wrong with a car cord?!? The only purpose I see for these are for those in the rare situation where they can't get to any electrical outlet- otherwise...

This is a more durable version of this device. Like a mag-lite. I've used it for camping. it's also good for disaster-relief stuff.

As was already mentioned, Lithium batteries are "suggested" becuase they offer the best performance. Depending on your phone, you should get a couple of full charges (dead battery to full) on one set of lithiums. If you wish, you can use ANY AA battery, but none will likely have the same performance as lithium.

Would like a list of all phones it is compatible with or assurance that it is compatible with ALL models of a cell phone manufacturer.

When you come across them in store, the tips are exposed out the back so that you can try it on your phone before you buy...pretty cool.

for Paul Rentz:
First of all, all cell phones need to be charged. It's not like a toy and all you do is keep replacing $4 batteries. Batteries for cell phones are $40+ dollars and would be expensive to keep buying batteries. Apparently you don't own a cell phone and just stumbled upon this website and made a comment. The only think wrong with a car cord is what if you don't have a car and, you can't carry a car in your pocket or purse to recharge your cell phone - just too bulky. Diddo for carrying your AC plug with you - too bulky. Besides, if you're in a store or mall, where would you plug in your AC cord? And it doesn't just take seconds for it to charge either-you'd be there for hours. Your last sentence says it all - that's why these chargers were invented!
