With more income and fewer kids than the average car buyer, gay and lesbian consumers turn to smaller, fun-to-drive, sporty cars. Four of the ten most-researched vehicles online at Gay Wheels are convertibles. According to Gaywheels founder Joe LaMuraglia, "There are many stereotypes about what we as a community drive, [but] we are as diverse as the rest of the population."

That said, LaMuraglia notes, "The vehicles that the Gaywheels.com user is researching [are] markedly different than that of other automotive research websites, while still reflecting the diverse interests in our community." To wit, the ten most researched vehicles are for the most part small and relatively affordable. Seven models come from automakers outside the U.S. All 10 are from makers considered friendly to the GLBT (gay, lesbian, bi, transgender) community. Each offers domestic-partner benefits to workers, for instance.
