Showtime Compact Rotisserie & BBQ OvenSummer Gadgets: Showtime Compact Rotisserie & BBQ Oven

Wouldn't this indoor compact rotisserie oven look great next to your Ball Park Hot Dog Grill?

Design: Measures 17 by 15 by 13.5 inches (no wider than a toaster oven), so it's perfect for your kitchen countertop. You can roast two chickens, a 15-pound turkey, a leg of lamb, a rack of ribs, or six kabobs. Available in black or white.

Features: Dual-heating tray with lid. Dishwasher-safe nonstick parts. Rotisserie & BBQ video, booklet, and recipes. Drip pan. Food ties. Spit holder and easy loading base. Complimentary BBQ gloves. $250 coupon book.

How It Works: Set the 3-hour automatic timer so you can complete other tasks while waiting. [From Amazon.com]: "Place the spit through the wire food basket that accompanies the rotisserie and it will rotate chicken wings, salmon steaks, or other foods through the roasting cycle. Meanwhile, place the enameled-steel steaming tray atop the rotisserie, cover with its plastic lid, and the rotisserie will steam vegetables or shrimp." Operates on 1,250 watts.

Price: The Showtime Compact Rotisserie & BBQ Oven sells for $99.95 on Ronco.com.

I'm always skeptical of indoor rotisseries, I suppose I'm just scared that the ghost of Ron Popeil lives in one of them. ..assuming he's dead, which I don't think he is. But anyway. But still! This one's a RONCO! Ack! Although admittedly those late night infomercials do turn out some very tasty food...

I wouldn't mind being Popeil...he's a multi-millionaire for inventing things like the Veg-O-Matic food slicer, Popeil Pocket Fisherman, and The Cap Snaffler. These are practical yet simple ideas that I wish I thought of myself! Still, the GLH-9 Hair in a Can Spray--I'm a little scared of!! I'm going to spit-roast one of these days...they say it's the best!!

As it happens, they just three hours ago reran the episode of "Good Eats" about making Greek gyros at home. When discussing how to make your own lamb meat loaf (not meatloaf) for the gyros, Alton Brown roundly lambasted (lamb, basted, get it?) the home rotisseries. He hated them with a vengeance, saying they were too small to move moist air away from the food, didn't cook evenly, were tough to clean and a real chore to load. Stay away from this. Stay far, far away.

Well, of course this smaller rotisserie won't get the job done as well as a regular-sized rotisserie would, but if you don't have a lot of room and aren't cooking for lots of people, I think this compact oven would suffice.

Had my Showtime Professional Rotisserie for 2 weeks now. Used it 4 times, Roast beef, chicken thighs, Beef brisket, hamburgers and hot dogs, and I have one thing to say, "love the way it cooks!". It's NOT hard to clean, easy to use, and so far has cooked great tasting meats that the wife usually messes up with a regular oven.
