HP is introducing another set of notebooks to complement the Zen-like Pavilion dv2000 and the Presario V3000. By Zen-like, I'm referring to the new imprints found on the piano black and gray finishes of the dv2000 and all the way up to the new dv9000. If you look close enough, you'll see "wave" patterns all over the lid and inside of the notebooks. To some extent, it's almost hypnotic. Today, HP launches the HP Pavilion dv6000, dv9000, and a Compaq Presario V6000, extending the Zen experience. The new models will have larger screens-- 15.4 and 17 inches to be exact. They will also have some HP notables, such as QuickPlay 2.1, dual microphone arrays and an integrated webcam. Sorry folks, you can only find these options on the dv6000 and dv9000. It looks like the Presario V6000 got the short end of the multimedia stick, but it does come at a lower price. All three models will come with options for a Lightscribe DVD burner, a Express Card only slot, a 5-in-card reader and extended battery options. Now the confusing part: HP is launching these notebooks with AMD processors only, specifically the Turion 64 X2 and Sempron processors, which is a little weird since the Intel Core Duos perform better accross the board. It looks like HP is trying to win consumers over with low prices, but if you look at my review of the HP Compaq nx6325 with a Turion 64 X2, performance isn't bleeding edge and processor options are limited. So what's left? 64-bit processing baby!

To the dear writer: Have you actually tested the laptops before commenting that Turion X2 is lower in performance?? I use both an Thinkpad T60 with 1.66GHz Core Duo, and an HP nx6325 with 1.6 GHz TL-52 on a regular basis. I'm a doctoral student Computational Linguistic at U of Illinois. And HP nx6325 consistently perform better on C++ code compilation as well as any scientific applications such as FFT, latent semantic matrices, etc. Do you have any basis on which to claim that Core Duo actually performs better; or are you simply excerting your personal likes and dislikes. I hope that you would have a slighly more object review than what you have right now.

I did a review of the nx6325. You can get it here: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1982989,00.asp You can also get to the review from the post too. In the review, you'll find benchmark charts and comparisons against other systems that have similar components. Granted, my results are based on the nx6325, as well as the dv2000z. I would like to look at higher clocking X2 processors, but this is all that's out there right now.

Thanks for the timely response, I will look carefully at your previous review, which I was not aware of.

My guess is the Intel counterparts will appear/be anounced in a few days after Intel introduces 'Merom', even if the Intel models will have a estimated ship date later than the AMD parts (since 'Merom' availability should be mid-August and anouncement is supposed to come as soon as July 23 based on rumors on the Web.

I thought that HP will wait with its new models from at bregen because augutus-september Intel merom will end up.But probably HP with the release of the merom will produce new Notebooks.Do you know of it already more? Mvg-Glenn-VU

Mr. Cheng: HP now offers a DV6000 that you can order with 2GB of RAM and a discrete video option (the Nvidia GeForce Go 7200 with 64 mb of dedicated memory and another 192 mb shared with system memory). I know this is not one of the top video cards (probably just a step up from integrated video), but would going to 2GB of RAM and this video option help the performance much, especially for gaming? Best Buy currently has a $1199 price for a DV6045nr with the Turion 64 X2 at 1.8ghz; 2 GB of RAM; 120 GB drive and the Nvidia GeForce Go 7200 as indicated above. All of this seems like a pretty good combination except maybe the graphics option. That is why my question in the first paragraph. Also, I am looking for a notebook with no larger than a 15.4 inch screen that has at least a midrange graphics performance for games for a decent price - are you aware of any? It seems most of these require you to go up to a 17 inch screen. Thanks.

Jeff, if you look at other HP laptop configurations, you will notice that hp offers better GPU's with the Intel models than with the AMD models (you can see all their modelshere), so my guess is that they will upgrade to the nVidia geforce go 7300/7400 at least (i think both offer a humble, but workable 128mb dedicated). If we are lucky, we may even see the go 7600 (256mb dedicated) on the dv6000t, but we can only cross our fingers.

By the way: Hp is selling this model with Intel chip too: dv6000z Pros: Slim, Sleek, Stylish, Super Fast Cons: gets a little warm Full user opinion I am in IT, and in last 10 years have had over 10 laptops. I have to say this model is the best I have ever had. This is the best designed looks wise other than mac books. New features such as Slim design 1", Camera, mic, Ipod like touch controls, Piano black Zen Sand design finish. My config -AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Mobile TL-56 (1.80GHz/512KB -2 GB Ram -56MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7200 -120 GB Harddrive -Brightview Screen Performance: I really wanted to get 64bit and why not dual x2. I was concerned with reading about that AMD Turion x2 didnt match with Intel 32bit dual core. But I have to say that to me this baby is fast, in boot ups, opening applications. I will be benchmarking it over the weekend and post some results. I had a HP dv5000 before this, and comparing to that, this laptop takes care of everything I had complaints about. Keyboard: is bigger keys including arrow and Home, end etc. Track pad: Better finish, and better control. Includes Scroll feature, and this model also allows you to turn it off. I would highly recommend this laptop compared to all other Hp models and Dell 1505 that I have also had. HP Bluetooth: I had a external bluetooth with my last laptop and it was a nightmare to uninstall Microsoft driver and find 3rd party driver inorder to be able have PIM Sych features. Microsoft driver for bluetooth dont allow you to do majority of tasks Btooth is capable of. Integrated Btooth, came with HP driver that have all tasks enabled. Camera, Microphone big plus!!! I have had Toshiba, Dell before HP, I am sold on HP with this model. This laptop will be what Ipod did to Apple. HP designers are on the right track. Dell charges $150 more for Xp Professional, Hp is only $55 more. The lowest of all major brands. Cons: Only thing I dont like is it gets a bit warm on my lap. BTW: Compusa has major sale on this model this week

Ditto with Jazz. I bought one for my daughter at Pitt. Then last night I rushed out to Best Buy and bought the floor model, which is the only one I could find anywahere, and I did some major checking. I too am in IT and we buy all Dells, but for me...the HP dv6045nr is the ultimate for the price...
