 Just when you thought Gateway had already axed off their eMachines branded notebooks, a new eMachine notebook resurfaces at Wal-Mart for back-to school season. The eMachines N-10 laptop is available at any of the 3200 Wal-Mart stores, and the packaged deal seems like a pretty good one. For $798, the 14.1" widescreen and AMD Sempron 3200+ processor may look like a rip-off, but Gateway manages to throw in a 2-year warranty, 2 years of LoJack laptop theft recovery software and 2 years of McAfee AntiVirus software. Folks, the operative word here is TWO years, which is very impressive all by itself.
Gateway and Wal-Mart will also throw in a 128MB USB flash drive and a Targus backpack, because the notebook will weigh 5.3 lbs on top of all your textbooks. . Some of the other technical specs include Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, 512MB RAM, and a 60GB hard drive(4200rpm). You can't get this deal on Gateway's website or any other retail outlet, so you might have to suck it up and head over to your local life-sucking retail giant.

I love laptops and use mine like it's an aditional appendage. I bought a Gateway notebook 2 years ago and had great expectations. It quit 3 months after purchase and Gateway argued and ignored all requests for repair. I didn't abuse the unit and they still never fixed it. It is an oversized paperweight now and I've been happy with my new HP notebook which needed repair upon purchase due to being an abused display floor model. Good Luck with the two year Gateway warranty ; they'll just get to ignor you for another year!

Interesting...eMachines desktops are expensive paperweights to begin with, what makes Gateway think that laptop is going to be any better? I can't possibly count the number of eMachines desktops that come through my computer shop each year due to dead power supplies (which usually fries other components when it goes out) and dead motherboards. It's going to be hard walking by someone with an eMachines laptop and not say to them "I'm sorry for your purchase.". It's hard enough not saying that when I see an eMachines desktop leaving Wal-Mart or entering my shop. At least when they enter my shop, I know it's going to be an easy diagnosis 99.9% of the time. Now I have to worry about laptops coming into the shop. When are the major companies going to learn? When are the people who buy these going to do research first so they don't get screwed over? Gateway, get a clue...Close the door on eMachines.

I would rather wait and see as to laptops, I have been looking at HP myself, let me clue you in on a thing, if you can improve a power supply if its at all you can make it much better, you stand a better chance keeping your customers. I may chase off the path but it made my uncle some money, he a long time ago ran a repair business, his luck was a trailer full of OEM replacement motors, load was refused, my uncle helped a driver out by buying a trailerload and made much profit and built his reputation as one of the towns best refrigerator repair shops around, Thing is if the power supply is not constructed right make it better, in electronics, I had a blown 16 Volt Cap, and turned around and replaced it with a 35 VDC Cap. anyone had Radio & TV classes or read the leagues Amateur Radio Handbook can see that logic. Of our many Dells, were thought we were getting second rate service. Then we got HP and saw the light. Bring back the Dells! HP sucks. But instead we got eMachines and not one complaint from any users! Superb quick service too. We all were very surprised at the great quality and service of our eMachine desktops and even these laptops.

There was a time when I would have objected to your characterization of WalMart as the "local life-sucking retail giant." I know several people who work for them. However, they have rejected their employee and customer centricity and loyalty for the almighty dollar. A recent company directive is to get rid of employees making $10 an hour or more and we are seeing older, loyal employees being forced out because of their wage bracket. The study which they commissioned found that there was no improved service to customers from long term employees over new hires with significantly lower wages. Even if it is true (which I seriously doubt), one of the strength of this "retail giant" has always been the loyalty of its employees. I was loyal to it based upon their employee and customer standard and did not shop at Target or other large stores for that reason. It's sad to see the day when I agree with any derogatory comment directed at what Sam Walton began as company with respect for all it served including its employees.

I agree with the "Life sucking" bit but disagree with the eMachine gripes. I have purchaced 8 emachines over the years and only had (1) CD/DVD drive failure which the shiped a replacement overnight to fix. I have 2 A64 base desktops in my home that run 24/7 and have never given me a problem. All my machines are fully protected with 1200VA UPS systems with Cable surge protection for the cable modes as well. I love eMachines and will buy another one when I get ready to upgrade again.

I purchased an Emachines 2502 Laptop to take to Iraq with me a year and a half ago. It turned out to be the biggest piece of junk I ever owned. I should have stuck with Toshiba as I own two Satellites and they never gave me problems. On the Emachines Lap, the screen started flickering about 3 months after I purchased it. Apparently this was a common problem on this particfular model or series (2500) and when I tried to get it repaired was told I would probably have to pay for parts replacement, a new monitor. I happen to know something about computers and knew it wasnt the monitor byt a connection between the monitor and the housing. Still havent gotten around to fixing it myself, but I definitly wouldnt buy another Emachines.

Just purchased this laptop bundle on Friday, here I am Monday and ready to return it like now. Lots of errors, freezing screensaver, computer freezes up while surfing, out of three USB ports - one seems to be working half okay. Very disappointed.

I purchased this Bundle, I am a Certified Computer Tech, and I have this computer as I am going to college, and am on a budget.I have owned it for about 3 weeks, I have no problems with the unit, I have removed some of the bundled sofware because I do not use it, but overall, the computer is quick, light, it may not be that largest laptop on the market, but it gets the job done. I am very pleased with the Back pack and Thumb drive also. I think this Unit is very much worth the price. Good Buy.

I bought 2 (his & hers)about 2 months ago, and have not had any complaints so far. I have deleted some bundles software and added some of my own I keep the updates and virus protection current for both machines and all goes smothly. Even tho I expected the laptop to be kind of slow, it seems to work adequately for my use. I will be buying more RAM to see if this may help the speed. The 2 year warranty and 2 year virus protection are great! The backpack is nice but the 128 USB drive is a waste. I got a 1 GB drive very cheap! I'll post more if I see any big changes in my feelings about this unit.

Hi, I'm attending college and I've looked at several different laptops to meet my needs. Due to the fact that Wal-mart has conveniently run out of the Acer Aspire 3624wxci. I've been looking at the Emachines N-10 bundle. However, I can find precious little information on this laptop such as reviews, test drives and the usual information that normally accrues with any computer release. If anyone could direct me to a review of this machine.... Or even simply constructive comments about this particular computer (based on personal experience) I'd appreciate it. Also, my budget can handle roughly 500-600$ usd- so if you know of a notebook/ laptop within that price range that you'd recommend I'd also like to hear about that. qx11984@yahoo.com P.s.
