The Beijing 2008 Olympics is bringing in a lot of fancy names, from Quincy Jones composing a theme song for the Olympic Games to Lenovo branding a laptop with Coca Cola and the Olympic rings under the Lenovo logo. According to Gizmodo, the refreshing $1,687 Lenovo F20 will feature: * Intel M778 processor, 1.66GHz * Intel 915GMS chipset with GMA900 display chip * 12.1 inch wide screen monitor * 512MB DDR2 memory * 80GB hard disk * External Combo drive * WiFi, Bluetooh, 56K modem, and 100Mbps ethernet port * Build in 1.5W stereo speaker * 3 USB ports, 1 IEEE1394 port * All-in-one memory card reader * Dual batteries for 8.5 hours usage If you don't want to don a red laptop with a bunch of brand names, then for around the same price, you can get the Lenovo 3000 V100 with 1024MB of RAM, 100GB of hard drive space, and a DVD+R DL.

I wouldn't want to buy this "soon to be obsoleted" laptop. Why not using the new Intel Dual Core and better graphic card? Instead of honoring the 2008 Olympics Lenove seems to "degrade" it with this "obsoleted" laptop

as much as I contest the word "obsoleted." :p I'm curious-this laptop does seem a little underpowered, but I suppose Ghz aren't everything. The integrated video, small screen, lack of RAM, small hard drive for its price, EXTERNAL combo drive, and so on make this a pretty mediocre notebook compared to the Thinkpads that IBM has churned out in the past, and even some that Lenovo has pushed out more recently. I'm confused. Is the extra price for the red faceplace and nothing else? You'd figure the price would dip a bit if Coca Cola and the Olympics were tossing some cash Lenovo's way to make the commemmorative thing. ::grin:: Wonder if we'll see these running around the Olympic village come 2008?
