IR Controlled DalekRecently I learned that PC Magazine's Commerce Producer Arielle Rochette is a HUGE fan of the BBC show, Doctor Who. In her own words, Doctor Who is "about a 1000+ year old alien who travels through time and space in a machine disguised as an old British police box. And it is AWESOME! The Daleks are his greatest enemy."

So when I discovered that ThinkGeek.com was selling Dalek robots, I immediately IMed her with "Surprise! Lookie what I got here!"

The IR Control Daleks stand 8-inches tall and even speak in 9 digitized sounds from the 1965 Dr. Who and the Daleks movie. They come in three colors (red, black, and blue), but you can't pick which color you want. They also sport a powered rotating head, a moving laser turret, and flashing eyes. The included Infra-Red remote lets you rotate the Dalek left, right, and forward. Uses 3 AA and 3 AAA batteries (included).

The IR Control Daleks sells for $54.99.

If you haven't watched Doctor Who yet, you can catch it on Saturdays at 7pm on BBC One. It's repeated on Sundays at 7pm and Fridays at 9pm on BBC Three. I think I'm going to have to check it out one of these days!!

The new Dr. Who series is excellent; and for reference, the old Dr. Who series' that ran in the 70s and 60s were amazing as well; really imaginative and inventive science fiction! I had no idea ThinkGeek had little radio controlled Daleks! I wonder if they say "EXTERMINATE" if you push one of the buttons!

The Sci-Fi Channel has also been showing episodes from the previous season in the UK.

Has anyone had problems with the lights on this? I got one with dud lights, replaced it and after 30 minutes, the lights had died again! Does anyone know if this is a design fault!?

IR Dalek, I ordered two of these Daleks and are expecting them any day. Regarding your light comment, which type of batteries are you using? If you are using any of the new lithium AA and AAA cells, some of them damage toys with lights. Evidently there are some Duracells that have a disclaimer on the packaging. I'll test my daleks when they arrive and post results. UHFMonstrosity

The new series is awesome. There is a better Dalek toy though...it is 12" tall and radio RC. It is based on the new series. They keep the old look but really dress it up sharp. You can see a picture here. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0009P5YYS I'm in the U.S. so we are a year behind in the new Dr Who series. I got the DVD from Canada because the U.S. release of the DVD was held up for the sci-fi channel.
