Last week I posted a deal on the popular 22 page-per-minute Samsung ML-2010 laser printer at newegg.com: $49.99 after rebate. That deal is still there. But perhaps you'd like to trade off a little speed for a built-in color scanner. In that case, check out the Samsung SCX-4100. I was impressed when newegg offered it for $89.99 after $60 rebate. But then PC Connection came up with an even better deal: $59.95 after $60 rebate. PC Magazine's David Stone gave the SCX-4100 4 stars out of 5 when it first came out. At the time, this was a $200 device.

What consumers need is a way to really compare printers beyond just the dpi and quality of print outs. Consumers like me want to know how much does the ink/toner set me back each time I have to refill it? How much with typical use will I have to refill it? If I use the least ink via "draft" settings etc how long will it last and based upon this info. what is the most printer with the least pocket book trauma I can buy?
