Tune in to hear the Gearlog Radio crew go off the deep end. This episode is one of a kind. Note that during the show, we play the teenage ringtone, which unfortunately could not be reproduced in our recording (due to the compression). For a truly interactive, but awful, experience download the ringtone at the link above and play it whenever Sascha plays it on the podcast. Then you can cringe and complain with all of us. -> Download the MP3: Gearlog Radio: Wowwee's Roboreptile, Samsung's BD-P1000 Blu-ray player and Microsoft's LifeCam On this week's show: - Wall-crawling robots take Manhattan
- Wowwee's surprising angry Roboreptile
- Samsung's new BD-P1000 Blu-ray player
- Microsoft's new LifeCam, and what it means to Windows Live
- The teenage ringtone, which can supposedly only be heard by teenagers
- More gadgets from the Summa-Loving Gadget Countdown

Everybody at Gearlog also works for PC Magazine, so we're pretty proud of hitting number 26 on the Chicago Tribune's 50 Best Magazines list. The only other tech publication on the list is Wired, so we feel we're in pretty good company. There's definitely room for two great tech magazines in this fine nation of ours. Gearlog is a pretty new star in the Ziff-Davis firmament, so we'll understand if it takes a few years for us to win a Bloggie or a Weblog Award or a Webby Award. But we're working on it, we're working on it. You'll vote for us, right?

I've written about geeky jewelry before, and I have to say that I really need to invest in some. At the left is the RAM Necklace. Each necklace is hand-made from one RAM chip that hangs from a beaded chain. It measures 16-inches long and the RAM measures 2 inches. At the right are the RAM Earrings. Each earring is hand-made from one RAM chip that hangs from a metal hook. It measures 2 inches from your ear. Purchase the RAM Necklace for $14.99 and/or the RAM earrings for $8.99 at ThinkGeek.com.

Hydrogen fuel-cell cars may be on the road sooner than expected. Analysts predicted that the costly nature of hydrogen fuel-cell technology would prevent us from seeing consumer hydrogen powered automobiles for 10 years or more. But Honda is challenging that prediction: The company announced it will produce a consumer model in the next three to four years.
The car uses electricity generated by hydrogen to power its motor. As a fuel, hydrogen is more efficient than gasoline; as good as $0.20/gallon equivalent, meaning 20 cents of hydrogen fuel yields the same amount of energy as a dollar's worth of gas. It also burns significantly cleaner: Hydrogen cars emit nothing but clean, safe water. Overseas, Britain is already trying out this technology. The country's first hydrogen filling station opened last year in Hornchurch, Essex, and a line of hydrogen-fueled buses are already cruising London streets.
Experts doubted the possibility of a consumer line of hydrogen cars because of the expensive nature of the technology and the lack of hydrogen fueling stations to make use of it. Honda hopes to begin resolving these issues by developing a smaller, more efficient fuel cell to increase power and cabin space. The company is also working on an energy station that derives hydrogen fuel from the natural gas already in your home, allowing owners to refuel without leaving the driveway. If all goes as planned, we can say hello to hydrogen by 2010.

Last week I posted a deal on the popular 22 page-per-minute Samsung ML-2010 laser printer at newegg.com: $49.99 after rebate. That deal is still there. But perhaps you'd like to trade off a little speed for a built-in color scanner. In that case, check out the Samsung SCX-4100. I was impressed when newegg offered it for $89.99 after $60 rebate. But then PC Connection came up with an even better deal: $59.95 after $60 rebate. PC Magazine's David Stone gave the SCX-4100 4 stars out of 5 when it first came out. At the time, this was a $200 device.

How handy would this be? The InFlight Power USB Unit promises to let you charge your phone, iPod, PDA, or whatever small electronic device you need to keep from going nuts on a plane, while you're on the plane. The Inflight USB Power Unit ($34.99) "plugs into the passenger seat audio jack and outputs regulated power to the attached USB charging cable/connector" and works with standard USB charging cables. Patrick Norton of dl.tv and Cranky Geeks fame spotted this; he's wondering whether it's a really cool hack or "just beeeee-zar..." If it works as promised, I vote for cool hack. I'll try to get one in and test it, since I will be flying out to Seattle in a few weeks; I'll let you know! [via Daily Tech]
