This is why I refuse to buy any phone that doesn't have an SD or other kind of media card slot. I never have pictures so urgent that they couldn't wait until I got home. I wasn't about to pay Verizon (or Cingular nowadays) any dough to move a lousy picture.

So this essentially adds $45 x 24 = $1080 to the cost of a two year contract. Thats too rich for my blood VZW. Guess I will be sticking with my Treo 650. Oh, and by the way, since I am addicted to my Treo, it also means that I might be compelled to switch carriers when the time time comes.

From what I've heard, this is not the first time that Verison has been less than honest. A few years back, my son signed up with Verizon cellular service in a locale near Los Angeles. As I understand it, a class action lawsuit was later instituted against Verizon because, contrary to the sales people's claims, Verizon did NOT have service there. No wonder my son never received cell calls there. When he went to a different locale, he suddenly found that he had many voice mail messages for calls that were made while he was at home, in the phony Verison calling area.

you people in the united states will be surprised if you found out the thruth about how your famous verizon company is ripping of most of the usa citizens. I have worked in these verizon call centers (situated in a tropical island), and after a short while i got to know their work scheme I refused to obey orders and instructions. of course I was rapidly dismissed. I have however managed to save those instructions and can tell about the calls I answered. the country i live in is very corrupt so verizon has the time of their lives here. it is not only our country that is as corrupt as hell. you might want to take a real close look at a lot of your american "off-shore" companies and their strategies and behaviour abroad. not really surprising the usa has a lot more enemies than they think. they deserve it.

VERIZON continues to be the master of the "gotcha" charges embedded so deeply in their plans that you don't know what is happening until you get billed for items that you thought were free. Also, be careful, in renewing my plan for another two years, they offered me lots of extra minutes for "customer retention" so that I didn't move to a more generous company. When this bonus didn't show up on my bill, they told me that the agent wasn't authorized to offer them, so when I asked to quit and move to another vendor, they told me I'd be charged a couple of hundred $$ early termination fee. Company is corrupt, perhaps all of them are, though I hear that T-mobile is more consumer oriented.

Verizon was also good at hiding charges on something as simple as text messaging. When my son decided to do instant messaging he got a disclaimer screen that advised him a text messaging plan was necessary. Since we had one, he went ahead. When the next bill came there were over $1000 in messaging charges due to the IM service continuing to send messages even after he had quit the program. The next month the same surprise. To make this ever so long and complicated story short, my phone service has been interrupted and I "owe" Verizon over $2000. I have tried ad nauseum to get them to acknowledge their part in not properly informing us about this snafu, but they won't budge. Any advice would be appreciated. thesherpa(at)excite(dot)com

I've read about the Q and thought it was the phone I've been waiting for, until this. But maybe not. I have a Samsumg i600 and want to replace it but I don't have any desire to take or send pictures. I only want to sync with my Outlook calendar and contacts and make and receive phone calls. Will I get screwed by doing that. BTW, I've had Verison with the i600 for several years now and never had an overbilling problem.

Add the Audiovox PPC VX6600... I received several bills of over $300 two months in a row from this phone connecting without my knowledge... Credits were never applied to my account.Finally got a real phone and a new contract date for making change... Previously had a Kyocera 630 with unlimited MyVZW for $5.00 charge per month, where did MyVZW go??? Other problems were the phone could not lock on a signal from home and VoiceMail messages would not come until 3 days later when I left home with the phone. Data Phones are not ready for PrimeTime unless you have $100's per month for Phone + Data Plan and taxes!!!

VZ (and all the others) are marketing/pushing data-centric services (pictures, music, tv, exc.) and charging through the nose for it!! Go figure. History repeats itself. Remember when cell companys charged a bunch more for 'digital' phone calls? Caller id? Voice mail? At the time the 2G came out, they were charging 2x the 1G prices, 2.5G was being billed at 2x the 2G and now 3G is being billed at 2x the 2.5G service. Forgetting for the moment that VZ's coverage maps are for PHONE CALLS and not any of their 2G/2.5G or 3G services, also forgetting for the moment that VZ's AUP for their 'data service' is so confined to be almost useless and lastly, in a digital world 'data' is 'data' and it should NOT matter if your exchanging voice, text, web, video or pictures, it should cost the same. Within the next 2-3 years as ALL the cell companys get their 3G networks built out, the prices for using the services will drop to sub $40, $20 and finally $10 a month. Keep in mind that the initial 'plan' (or goal) is not to save consumers money but to drive UP the average billing rate per line. $50 a month average x 1 million customers = $50M-AVG a month revenue. $100 a month average x 1 milion customers = $100M-AVG a month revenue.

We all understand the problems with Verizon overcharging. Does anyone have a solution to this problem. My son left Verizon after hundreds of dollars of charges for text messages, that he thought (because of Verizon's wording of their contract) were included in his plan. BTW, Verizon was the only wireless company that did not allow for airtime in the Katrina area after the storm - most wireless companies were a little more compasionate towards the victims of this great catastrophe.

The warning should be: DO NOT BY VERIZON . Our company bought the moto v710 phones so that employees could connect via bluetooth. Surprise! Verizon had the bluetooth hacked so that only the earpiece worked. When we contacted them, they first insisted that the phone had bluetooth. Later they did admit to the fact that it was broken. The phone can't be connect to a computer, PDA, car or other bluetooth devices. Verizon says it is for security. Someone would have to be within smacking distance if they wanted to connect to the phone without permission. But they do offer a replacement for it, there GET IT NOW service (additional charge) and of course the $0.25 charge for voice mailing pictures. This is in their business plan. The manufacturers should NOT be disabling their phones. They are enabling this behavior. Needless to say, our company returned the phones and canceled the phone services. We now only use phones that are not modified and recommend very loudly to all that they do the same.

Why does it not suprise me that verizon is up to their old tricks. I have a Treo 700W that I bought off Ebay brand new and I swaped out phones because I liked the PDA / phone feature, it's great for work. If what everybody saying is true then I need to keep watching my bill. My contract expires in August and from the looks of it I may be switching carriers to cingular. I don't even use the sms or mms feature and know I am getting paranoid that I may be charged. This reminds me of the type I did the new very two just when the new V710 came out ant the sale person swears that the case and charge came with it and it was no extra charge and wouldn't you know it, they charged me. To top it all of they some how mixed up the primary line from the secondary line. No wonder verizon has so many haters. I realize every phone company has faults but why doesn't the other cell provide have this many complains?

My wife and I purchased to XV6700 phones in March 06, mine with an unlimited data plan and my wife's without even though the sales folks warned us. At home I called data tech support and requested that all data services be denied for my wife's phone. As a backup, on her phone, I told it to dial 'work' (which goes nowhere) instead of Verizon. We have not seen any surprise data charges so far. We do not use text messaging but I think the tech support folks said this could be 'denied' as well. Verizon service text messages continue to come through on both phones without additional charges. This way my wife gets the PDA/cell phone combo she wants without worrying about surprise data network charges.

The issue with the treo is when you receive a mms (not a sms) message the phone automatically connects to the data network. If you do not have a data plan then you could incure massive charges and not even know it. This happened to me a few times. it can happen on the trea 700w and p, 650, moto q. get the data plan 40 dollar is better then 1000

The problem is much deeper than any of you can imagine. When my contract was up, Verizon informed me that I was entitled to a new phone (limited selction)or a credit of $100.00 towards any phone they offered. I chose the Motorola E815 which they had in their showcase with a price tag of $99.00 but when I got the paper work the price had gone up to $199.00 less my $100.00 credit so I still paid the $99.00 that they charged everyone else. When I complained, I got a lot of double talk but because I was ready to walk away without renewing my contract the sales person managed to give me $50.00 worth of accessories (car cord and leather case) for a discounted price of $20.00. I still walked out. I went onto the Verizonwireless web site where I ordered the E815 for $49.99 after my $100.00 credit and guess what, it came with a case and a car cord.

Is there a need to have a data plan with the Verizon Treo 650? I just use mine for phone and calendar stuff?

When sending or receiving sms/mms messages from a pda/phone verizon will charge you with both a sms/mms charge and a data usage charge. If you call verizon and request that the data usage for your pda/phone be turned off then you will not get a data usage charged for the sending or receiving of sms/mms messages. However if you have a data usage plan, like the unlimited plan, then you will only be charge only for the sms/mms charge. The question here is why is verizon charging its customers with sms/mms charges when they send and receive sms/mms messages from their pda/phone while on an unlimited data plan? If sms/mms messages ride on the data network then they should be include with the unlimited data plan!

A very serious consideration regarding Verizon data plans is their very limited coverage area. If you do not live, work and play very close to a major metropolis, your "unlimited" Data Plan is useless. Also, I personally experience frequent drop-outs if I am in motion while using Data Services. I am paying a lot of money for unlimited data, but in my area it is not very reliable.

I too had the same problem with Verizon, the Treo 650, and the txt/pix messaging plan. I got charged the first month that I had the plan and was told that I could not change my phone since I was already through the "30 day" guarantee. I then proceeded to tell them that I didn't know about the data plan (which I didn't) and that it is ridiculous that I am being charged for the plan and charged per picture message that I send. They changed the access on my phone to the data lock and told me that this would fix my problem. It wouldn't let me send or receive pictures, I got MAD. Called them back, they changed it again; didn't work and I got MAD. Eventually I started swearing and told them that if they cannot fix this problem that I WILL get a new phone at THEIR expense... and all of the sudden they were able to pull this magic plan out of their "you-know-what" and fix my plan. I am now able to send and receive picture messages without being charged for using data. **Suggestions Keep VERY detailed notes. Who you talked to, when, what they said, what you said, what they did, and etc. When you call back in read everything from your notes back to them. I totaled 3 pages of notes. (I was transferred a lot... I don't think they liked me). ** This is my plan now: AMERICA'S CHOICE II 450 ANYTIME $39.99 ACCESS 0205 I hope this helps someone. Wow. So many people have beefs with Verizon. I have been with them since they were NYNEX Mobile, and I have not had one instance where I had to dispute phone and data plans with them. I had two Treo 600s, two Treo 650s and currently a Treo 700p and Motorola Q (for my GF), with unlimited data plans for all and NO issues whatsoeevr with them, billing, data or otherwise. Every minor issue I did have had been resolved on the spot or within hours, either at a store, on the phone or through email. It must be that I'm in NYC and/or I have a horseshoe up my butt. It's probably the latter! ha ha ha! That said, it would be nice if Verizon were as loyal to a customer like myself as I am with them ... they barely budge on their equipment prices, and only when I threaten to "finally take my accounts elsewhere" do they blink, but barely. Then again, I wonder if all the cell telcos are like that ...

Equipment wise, it seems that the Q is slim, thats it. From a PDA standpoint it's not a 6700 and it's mulit-task features don't even come close to a Treo. So..if this is the case; it seems that a T-mobile / Sprint contract would be a better way to go as It will save me $35 a month on unlimited data... Can this be confirmed? The Q is a slim 1/2 usuable e-mail client and not even usable PDA...

Can someone explain me what is considered a data transfer. I was under the impression or was sold on the idea from the Verizon salesperson that email falls into this unlimited data plan. However, upon receiving my bill I notice that in fact everytime I receive an email on my Q it is condsidered a text message. At 10 cents a pop for about 700 monthly emails, thats a big chunk of change, and very frustrating.

The Blacberry needs to be added to the list. Purchased a 7130e from Verizon and now caught in the same type of trap. Only use as a PDA and cell phone. They keep trying to whack me for an extra $25 a month for a data plan. Half their employees say it is not needed, the other half say it is required. I am learning to hate Verizon rather quickly after using them for over ten years.

Verizon being THE BEST is the biggest hoax perpetuated on the American public. At any Verizo store there are lines out the door by tech support -Couldn't help but ove hearing "my phone just stopped working" "I lost my data inexplicably" "The phone doesn't work bothe with the in-home charger and the home charger. I have an Audiovox PDA IT WAS CHANGED FOUR TIMES Apparently at first, I was told it has no internal memory -Verizon told me no Pda's have memory so I bought a 1ggigabyte memory card The last time there they transferred my phone number and enabled my new device AND PROMPTLY ERASED ALL MY CONTACTS, CALENDAR ETC. (even though it was stored to the memory card) Verizon had to give me a new phone because the old phone had a problem with the ringe - You couldn't hear incoming calls - If you saw the incoming call coming in and tried to press "Answer" it still didn't work - so they cracked it - Since I have insurance they told me to send it back Verizon sent me a new phone and when they put in my phone number -FOR THE SECOND TIME lost my phone numbers My plan allows me to change the amount of minutes used per month When I tried to do this by phone and was told it was done - MISTAKE- I was given wrong info -Verizon said only in store I did it in Florida When I got back to New York - Sorry It's a mistake -You can only do in New York We will try to adjust it You spend hours on the phone discussing the bad phones - the charges for data usage -internet-NEVER USED- because the phone didn't work and not activated so I was told that my account showed 58,000 kb usage WHEN I DIDN'T EVEN USE THE PHONE The last three times I went into three diffenrent Verizon offices to discuss my bill and changing my device - The answers -I can't give you credit because it will come out of store proceeds -call customer service -But customr service said to come in -Tried 2nd store waited on line -This store inadvertently cracked the PDA -By the time they got to me Sorry the manager is off today We can't help you -Third location SO SORRY (after spending three hours two days in a row I was told to return with the old cracked phone so that they would try to retrieve contacts - SORRY Manager left the office But, in a very sweet voice Why don't you call customer service or data support - do you have the number -no but call Verizon they'll give it to you And the Manager JUST LEFT THE STORY ON THE PHONE IS JUST THE SAME I was charged $100 six months after the fact on my credit card for replacing a phone when I paid for it by cash When I faxed a copy of the receipt to Kimberly of Verizon - No answer - No credit- Sent it again- Brought in the receipt to the stores - Ans Sorry Please call Customer Service They are a bunch of thieves and try to tire you out! i can't believe what i am hearing. they have credited my acct for 2 months so far because of the hidden charges and they say they are not going to do it anymore. i will be filing a complaint wit the fcc and the state of pa public utilities commission because they are doing shady stuff.

I was on the phone with Verizon support. I do not have the data usage plan. I have the unlimited text\picture messaging plan. However, I pay a lot of money because picture messages charge me for data. I also just use my phone for text messaging\phone calls\and as a PDA. I have no use for syncing up with e-mail or browsing the internet. However, they are trying to sell me the data plan just so I don't get charged much $$$$$$$ for picture messages, which I was misled to believe were included with the plan. The frustrating part right now is that the Verizon support lady doesn't understand this. She is escalating the issue to her data tech support people. She thinks I'm accidentally browsing the Internet or checking e-mails because I keep my phone in my pocket. Or that I'm lying to her. She also said that she can only block text messaging all together, NOT JUST PIC MESSAGING! Hopefully she is wrong. I'm waiting on a call back. I agree, in retrospect I wouldn't have bought a PDA phone. Or, go with another company besides Verizon that doesn't charge so much for data usage.

This is a problem on Telus Mobility (and I assume other providers in Canada).

I think the problem is with Motorola or a combination of both, as most phones allow you to turn off data access, but the moto q does not appear to allow this.
