I don't do windows and I don't do lawns. So what's a lazy girl like me to do once my lawn starts growing? Introducing the Robomower RL1000. With this green mutant, you can select the day and time you want the Robomower to mow the lawn all season long. The RL1000 comes with a docking system and station, has a LCD display, 360-degree touch sensitive bumpers, dual navigation systems, and more. It can: - cut with a height of 1.5 to 3.5 inches
- enter the lawn consecutively from as many as four pre-selected points along the perimeter to increase efficiency
- depart and return on a schedule you select, never a need to start it or return it for recharging
- skip the next planned mowing session with the touch of a button
- mow up to 1/2 acre in a few consecutive runs, up to 4 hours on a single charge
The RL1000 is also weatherproof and maintenance-free, and comes with a Theft-Guard theft deterrent system (for those jealous neighbors) and a two-year parts and labor warranty. Unless you're Tom Cruise or Jessica Simpson, the price tags will leave your wallet in shock: The RL1000 is $1,599. [Thanks to a GearLog Reader for the tip!]

This is rebranded Friendly Robotics Lawnmower. It uses a guide wire to keep it from leaving the lawn and muching your neighbor's lawn (or your neighbors). In general, they're very cool, but also big and very, very heavy.

i think someone should program this or make a new lawnmower that runs on some open-source linux .. they already can do alot of stuff with the eletronic lego cars and some progarming skills

Sure sounds good to me - wish I had the bucks.

Wish I had the bucks - hate mowing grass.

The Robomower will steal summer jobs from hard working American teenagers! We need stronger techno-trimming-immigration laws. And we need them now.

About 9 months ago, I bought a Robomower (Model RL800 made by Friendly Robotic from Israel) and it works great! I have to say that my wife was more than a little sceptical when I went out looking for a replacement for our dead gas-powerd mower and came back with this beast, but she's a believer now. She even thanked me for getting it as our yard has never looked beter -- mowing the lawn didn't used to be my favorite chore. The model RL-800 doesn't have a docking station, so I have to get it out of the garage and turn it loose, then a couple of hours later I retrieve it and plug in the charger. I do a quick trim with a battery powered string trimmer, and that's it! I call the mower "Jose" -- and don't need an illegal immigrant to do my yard, thank you very much!

> The Robomower will steal summer jobs from hard working American teenagers! We need stronger techno-trimming-immigration laws. And we need them now. I haven't seen a teenager mowing a lawn for money in years. Mexicans and low-balling one season mowing companies took all those jobs around here. If my lawn wasn't so hilly I'd buy one.

If you have the cash on hand, just think how much money it would save.

I view this as I would a grease dripping double deluxe triple-decker fast food burger...a fat builder. The technology is fine...but why? I know that it is hard to get good dependable help - but why not do it yourself? As a whole, the USA spends way too much time inside anyway. Personally, I enjoy the time outside mowing up to 12 acres. No phone,no hassles, and get to see nature. Just another thought-if ole Robo breaks down ... who do you call? Ghostbusters?

I am thinking one of these has my name on it, Unlike Melvyn I just have trouble finding time to mow 2 acres with a rider and it;s not like I am getting any exercise, Melvyn's the man, mowing 12 acres with a walk behind.

I think that our government should subsidize the purchase of these. They (Bushites) are squauking about the pollution given off from gas powered mowers. These would solve the problem of pollution but not of our growing waistlines.

I have owned a Robomower before they were "cool". My first Robomower was the yellow RL-500! I'm on my 2nd battery for my 2nd system, and it is still going strong! Mine didn't come with the docking station, which IMO completes this system. A solar charger would make it perfect! :) I have **very bad allergies**. I also have hayfever problems. The Robomower eliminates 90% of my grass- and yard-related allergy problems. I'll never again use a push mower, ever. In fact I've sold my push mower because I never used it! I have an old-style rotary mower to do the small areas and corners that aren't part of the Robomower's wired area. I don't miss any of the push mower's noise. Nor do I miss the dusty pollen-strewn clouds of grass and dirt that get thrown up during the dry months. Or the gasoline expense, along with that lovely smell of fuel oil that saturates your clothes. Or the bagging of the grass. Or the blade sharpening... well, you get my meaning. While this is cutting the lawn, I can go to the store, go for a walk, or do other chores all while it is dutifully mowing the yard. I can trim the edges and be done before the mower finishes the rest of the lawn. I consider this to be an investment and I will buy a new one when my existing one reaches its end. This is a small price to pay for such an improvement to my quality of life. I would buy one even if they were twice what they were. The impact it makes to reduce my allergy suffering is that important to me. I hesitate to say that it has "changed my life", but it really has. Think of it this way - how much are you willing to spend on a good bed for a good night's sleep? If you are willing to spend "whatever it takes" on a mattress to give yourself a QUALITY sleep experience, then you are the kind of person that should buy one of these. My only complaint is that it does not edge or spread fertilizer! :)

I'm shocked to see so many people up here with these robots. I personally love my robotic lawn mowers. So far as a solar powered mower, the cost is just to much. A solar plate that would be weather proof and still be able to charge the batteries would cost several hundred dollars. A full year worth of re-charging the mower only costs about 10 bucks. Husqvarna tried a solar mower and it failed horribly over in Europe. Not just in sales but in performance.I have seen several home built ones that work decently, but nothing that we could take to a production level and make work across all lawns, like the Robomower has done. Check out the full reviews at http://www.bamabots.com for an in depth review of Robomower.
