LukWerks Digital Video Surveillance SystemNeed to keep an eye on the babysitter while you're out with your spouse? Or perhaps you just want to know what your cat does all day? With the LukWerks Digital Video Surveillance System, you can view live, streaming video from up to six cameras using a PC.

Recently, PCMag.com reviewed LukWerks, and got the system up and running in less than 15 minutes. According to the review, the "real power of the LukWerks surveillance system lies in its motion-detection and recording capabilities." A real setback though is that video is limited to 15 frames per second.

PCMag.com liked that the system doesn't require dedicated wiring, and that you can configure it to alert you via text or e-mail of a single frame of video or an entire video clip in which motion was detected. However, this is an indoor-only camera; if you want to monitor your property, then you have to position the camera to "look" through a window.

The LukWerks starter kit includes: USB power-line receiver, camera, camera power-line transformer, wall and desk mounts, window decals, and all cables.

Starting today, you can officially purchase the LukWerks Digital Video Surveillance System at RadioShack or RadioShack.com for $299.99. Up to five additional cameras can be added for $229.99 each. I don't know, the additional cameras seem awfully pricey to me. Doesn't make sense. But hey, it would have come in handy for Jill Johnson and that creepy stranger in When A Stranger Calls.

Seems like a good idea, but 15 frames per second, and $229 for additional cameras? I think I'll wait for the price to come donw a bit for the cameras.
