Single LCD Panel ProjectorDevices keep getting smaller and smaller, don't they?

Korean company ILJIN Display has been busy with designing an ultra small single LCD panel for digital projection. Traditional projectors use 3 LCD panels (red, green, and blue) to project what's on the screen; this new single LCD panel can combine all three panels so that projectors can be smaller in size and price.

ILJIN Display's hard work and time paid off, because they are now finished with development, and hope to start production of the single LCD panels in September 2006.  By January 2007, the company will produce single LCD panels for pocket digital projectors, and then in April 2007, making panels for cell phones.

So what does this mean? Within the next couple of years, you may be watching movies on a screen in your home with your cell phone as the projector; and it doesn't stop there. Your PDA, PMP, digital camera, or laptop could be mini projectors, too. Pretty cool, huh? I just wonder about the whole technology behind it, and how it would actually work, like where is the sound produced, and will you have to store movies on your cell phone in order for them to be projected? This seems like a good idea: bringing your cell phone or PDA to your friend's house to watch a movie, instead of lugging a projector with you.

I think that this will be a welcome addition to Cell Phone accessories. And, it's a way cool concept!

I wonder what kind of resolution they're anticipating? Anything smaller than a standard 27" screen would almost be pointless, but then again, look at the screen size on a PSP, small but very clear, easy to see small details in movies. Either way, it's about time there was an advancement in LCD technology, worth talking about!

I think would be be a wonderful way to access the web, couple it with the led projection keyboard or a foldup bluetooth keyboard and your cellphone could actually be a useful way to access the web. With broadband speeds to cellphones, you could use it for a full length movie but I think the real use would be for the web.
