Canon DC40There are already digital camcorders on the market that can shoot in widescreen, but Canon's new DC40 digital camcorder uses the entire width of the image sensor to capture video in 16:9 format. Why does this make a difference? Well, with more pixels captured, you get better image quality. Other camcorders force the wider picture into a smaller space on the sensor -- giving you a less than true image, with fewer pixels and lower quality.

Widescreen 16:9 formatNot only does it record in widescreen (up to 60 minutes), it also takes 4.3-megapixel stills and features a Smooth Zoom control, 2.7-inch LCD with backlight, dolby digital stereo audio, wireless remote control, and built-in electronic lens cover.

So when will it be available? According to the NY Times, you can purchase the Canon DC40 next month for $899. But, on the Canon site, it says it won't be available until April. So, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

This is really a new feature for a camcorder. I'll keep a watch on this one pricewise. A real good info for everybody.
