An Introduction to WiMedia and UWB Networks for CE Devices

WiMedia is an emergingstandard for ultra wideband wireless networks capable of running at speeds over 500 Mbps over distances of up to 30 feet. Intended as a cable replacement, WiMedia is expected to be the technology powering new “wireless USB” and high-speed Bluetooth devices, due in next fall. Up to 128 devices will be able to operate as a single network in close proximity, making WiMedia a potential replacement for all the cables in many home entertainment and computer systems. Because of its speed, WiMedia should work well for video applications, including fast file downloads into mobile devices.
