StikAx

Here's a product that I don't claim to understand, having grown up around mixing devices that were anything but handheld. Still, I know people who really like the StikAx and want to offer it as a last-minute gift idea. Here's how Doug Kohl, an old friend who does the company's PR, describes the product:

"The iPod generation has arrived and it's not content with simply sharing static music and video any longer. The convergence of new affordable hand-held interactive music, video, and digital photography mixing technology has created a new reality. StikAx is a USB hand-held interactive music, video and digital photography mixing device that combines with the bundled TrakAx digital editing and special effects desktop software, to turn your PC into a virtual basement mixing studio. Finally remixing music, video and machinima movies is fun and easy.

"StikAx comes with TrakAx mixing software, and over 450 loops and tracks to get you started creating your own music, and music videos, that can be shared over a multitude of media players. StikAx is sold at Barnesandnoble.com, EB Games, Gamestop, J& R Computers, Micro Center , and Amazon.com and also available on-line at www.stikaxusa.com. Street price $99."

Here's what PC Magazine had to say:

"This hardware/software package places ten buttons and a light-beam switch in your hands, so you can be an audio/video DJ, on the fly. Program each button to play loops when pressed or released; some buttons modulate others. You create loops with the included TrakAx audio and video editing suite, from your own material or the included Vinyl Call clip library for a multimedia mash-up. StikAx is fun for a budding DJ, though pros will want more real-time control, and the price is surprisingly low."

Hey great review on StikAx GearLog, StikAx really rocks for making audio mixes that I can share with my friends over the net. We are going snowboarding this weekend and getting new video to edit together a music video of the first weekend of boarding season here out west. Also they have a really cool on-line game off the www.stikaxusa.com website . Shredding video to follow, Dino

I'm confused. It says that there is little possibility for mixing but I'm in a band and I use the stikax to mix my tools, and it's never limited me.

I picked up a StikAx at DigitalLife in NYC this summer and found that making a machinima movie short with my Grand Theft Auto and Medal of Honor was as easy as downloading a trailer, mixing video clips and in my favorite audio clips. I also found this cool site with StikAx mixes that gave me some good ideas. http://www.vinylcall.com/music/mashups.htm

Making my first Music Video with StikAx was as simple as loading one of the samples off the Ministry Of Sound CD provided and start pushing buttons. I am now into special effects with fades and pans between video segments and sending the videos over the net via WAV files to my friends. Cool game on the stikax.com website that got me into mixing before mt StikAx arrived at my door. Fun & Easy to get into mixing dance tracks and music videos with my StikAx.

I took our family vacation digital pictures from Paris and London, and edited them into a cool family vacation music slide show and video to send to my siblings this Christmas. StikAx is great for showcasing my digital photos and mixing to music. I sent them out over the web to my friends and family in standard media player files.

Hey I just got into pluggin in multiple StikAx mixers into a single PC and mixing with friends. On one StikAx we programed all the buttons for video clips and the other for all audio clips, then we traded off the VJ/DJ duties and made a jam mix. Way cool!! Go StikAx!!
