xbox-360-box.gifSeems like many gamers are already finding glitches with their newly purchased Xbox 360. On IGN Entertainment's Teamxbox.com Web site, an online poll revealed that 14 to 16 percent of respondents are experiencing problems with their box, such as overheating and machine shutdowns as a result.

CNN.com reports that 360 users experienced crashes during game play and error messages.

On the other hand, about 600 respondents on Teamxbox.com have reported no trouble. So what's the verdict? Well, I wasn't one of the fortunate ones to get a 360, but it's very possible that people are finding glitches. Problems arise with most products, even when you take good care of them, so it doesn't surprise me.

Anyone with Xbox problems are urged to call 1-800-4myXbox or go to www.xbox.com. If the problems can't be resolved immediately, Microsoft said it will pay to ship the console overnight to a repair center, or ship a replacement.

If anyone out there has experienced problems, let me know!

UPDATE: In Chicago, a man has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft, saying that his XBox 360 has a design flaw that causes it to overheat and freeze up. The man seeks unspecified damages and litigation-related expenses, as well as the replacement or recall of Xbox 360 game consoles. More details in this report.

It is a very big shame that all of the people who went out and got the X360 on launch are already complaing about stalls and glitches. The reports are extremely isolated (recall PSP and PS2???) and, of course, Microsoft will repair the problems without a cent from you. They are expected to pull of a seamless job, but why don't you try to create a brand new console and beat another bonanza company to the shelves. I have pre-ordered mine through EB Games, and expect it around December 15. Just shut up already. Besides, why get angry when you can take more money out of Gates' pocket if you send it back. (Although, I have an immense respect for Gates.)

I reserved an XBOX 360 3 months ago, and now I am told I won't get it until Febuary. What kind of crap is that? Now I hear that up to 20% of 360s (as reported on various web forums) are crashing. 3 of my friends have crashing 360s. I am cancelling my pre-order today. I worked for Game Stop during the Dreamcast AND PS2 launches, and neither system had such problems. Isolated, yeah right. When 3 of my friends got crashing XBOXs, I imagine that the problems are more rampant than we think. I'll wait for the PS3 thank you.

microsoft is doing a bad job. plain and simple. I might have understood a shortage of about 10, 15, or maybe even around 20 percent of customers to have trouble getting a 360, but when theres 200 preorders at a given store and they only recieve 8, or 12, or 16.... thats terrible, regardless of whether or not the store accepted too many preorders, not only to mention the endless reports of glitches, scratched disks, and dead hardware popping up on threads everywhere. The only thing MS has managed to do is nothing short of screwing their customers. Oh, but atleast they've created alot of hype for the freakin thing, but of course they didnt mean to do that...

o right, 20% is isolated. for those of you who dont know math thats one fifth of the users! if it was just an isolated problem, it would maybe be 1 or 2%, but 15 - 20%? Thats ridiculous! I mean they knew that they would have over heating problems, thats why they made the power brick, but if your going to make a power brick you should make sure it works right first! PS3 for me.

I would rather the system be held back on a release date before they ship out faulty systems. MS should have tested more. They were in too big of a hurry to get a head start on the 3rd gen systems and it seems to be putting a hurting on them.

I have no idea what anyone is talking about, myself and 6 of my friends have an XBOX 360 and it runs great. Better then the PS2. O lockups. BestBuy here had 30 core systems and 10 standard systems. If you look at the past what PS and other did, they did the same thing(only exception is that they are goinf world Wide where PS and other never did). I think they are doing a great job. The tech guys on the phone have always been very good. So stop complaining will you. I am going back to by 360 now.

Maybe Bill did it all to make some money? Otherwise he'd have sold them at cost.

Wow, it seems that MS has managed to screw up.... again.... Honestly people, by now this is the kind of performance that one should expect from MS. The fact that their overheating is hilarious, though... For something that powerful, MS really should have tested it more before its release. Now tons of people have basically a small time bomb in their house... That's just waiting to cause trouble. If the thing gets too hot on say.... anything that'll burn, there is a huge fire hazard here. MS is probably gonna have to post a recall, unless, that is they'd rather deal with a lawsuit.

Your you guys really that stupid. Firsy bob, if Microsot sold it at cost, it would cost more. MSFT is loosing money on this. Now unsaken, if the problem is so bad why are so many people NOT having problems myself including. Perfect Dark has been working great for me, even the XBOX Live has been excelent.

You people are idiots. First off, the numbers are NOT 20%. A LOT of people with xboxes don't post that they're working. About 200 000 consoles were sold, and there are about1000 - 2000 claims. Seems pretty isolated. Secondly, there are xboxes in the hands of idiots. Scratched discs are a product of stupidity, as is overheating. If you can't build a PC from the ground up, don't think you know what's going on with the reported 360 problems. Overheating? Learn how to increase air flow, it isn't hard. Again, a lot of the complaints are made by idiots who cause the problems themselves. Granted, the chinese people in MS's sweat shops CAN make mistakes.. lol

Not only is the Xbox 360 hardware flaking out on me, but also Xbox Live for the 360. Additionally Microsoft Game Studios underachieved with the over hyped game 'Perfect Dark Zero', ironically the name suits it it plays like crap and online multiplayer is even worse, a dark zero is the only rating it deserves. I have the original Xbox and am a huge Halo 2 fan& I waited overnight at BestBuy to get my 360 and was happy to do so& Now I feel like Microsoft kicked me in the nuts and charged me $539 for it.

Come on people. Microsoft messed up by not testing enough and by not having as good of quality control as they could have had. There are reports that there are actually 2 different power blocks that were shipped. One grey one and one a little lighter. Only one of them is having problems. It was bad quality controll that let that happen. As for you Microsoft Lovers...and Haters, You can be a fanatic or a microsoft hater all you want, but you don't need to use that kind of language on a public ,essage system like this. If you hate microsoft so much, Why did you buy an xbox to begin with???? Everyone makes mistakes, Microsoft just seems to do a better job of doing it publicly than others. Give them a break. You can only get so many things right when you are all worried about beating the compatition to market. That's just the way it goes. Oh, By the way, I do not like microsoft myself, But I use their products because there are not enough Linux products out there that do what I need.

I think the may be a lot less problems than people are reporting. If I didn't have an xbox and I wanted one, I would lie so that people would cancel their pre-orders thereby moving up on the list. I think those who are doing that are brilliant!!

I think that you people need to put the xbox controller down and go back to school to learn how to spell! There's nothing worse than a bunch of whining brats, except a bunch of whining brats that can't even spell the words they are trying to say.Really people, do you even look at these complaints and try to correct them before you send them. By the way, I bought an xbox for my son and the damned thing works perfectly. If you people would get the xbox away from the wall or curtain, i'm sure you wouldn't have half as many problems. Well look at that, I wrote a WHOLE paragraph and didn't mis-spell the first word.

My xbox 360 has worked fine, my friends Xbox's were crashing untill I fixed it for them. It was very hard to do and it might not be something someone as tech savey as me should do. Step 1) I opened the glass faced cabinet it was in for one friend. Step 2) For one friend after i opened the cabinet i pulled the xbox out, for the other there was nothing to open so i just pulled it out. Step 3) This is the realy hard part. PUT IT WHERE ITS WELL VENTILATED LIKE IT SAYS IN THE INSTRUCTIONS. Since compleateing these difficult steps they have not had problems. If it hot enough where you are and you dont have A/C (not only do i feel sorry for you) but try putting a fan to blow on it. If all else fails and these steps dont work, I have had to contact Microsoft for various reasons over the years. I have never had a rude person, they have allways been very helpfull. My issues have ranged from getting software updates (XP SP1 and SP2 disks) to a keyboard that went bad after almost a year. I got everything within a couple days of letting them know my request/problem and any time I e-mail them they respond quickly. XBox support is provided online and they can even talk to you on msn messenger. I have a guy from Xbox on my buddy list and he has allways been helpfull. Last but not least, you have one, lots of people want them. Put the bloody thing on e-bay if you dislike it so much and let someone out there have a happy xmass :)

Actually, Ross, your posting is less than perfect. A period when there should be a question mark at the end of the third sentence; and i'm instead of I'm. I don't have an xbox (Xbox?) whatever it may be - I stumbled across this site by accident and have never seen such a pathetic correspondence in all my life. So I thought I would add to it. Happy Christmas!

... are you kidding me? This sucker costs more than a laptop and I can't put it into a standard entertainment console without it overheating!?!? (Some of) you are actually defending this and calling OTHERS stupid? Get off your knees. Bill's not going to put you in his will.

Kidz, Early adopters almost always pay through the nose. The 360 will have to come down in price and there will have to be some games that really utilize the new platform for me to move up from the XBOX. Sony is not what it used to be. Samsung is what Sony should be. The only thing Sony can do is buy up mediocre media and package malware into their entertainment. See what the mainstream media says about the glitches. Compare Gates' rapid and complete response on 360 problems to Sony's lies, denials, and half-baked reaction to the discovery of their deceitful rootkit exploitation.

Those of you who expect to put a next gen gaming system into a poorly ventilated cabinet are drugged. The CPU's and VPU's going into these things create lots of heat. If you have poor ventilation, it will overheat. Period. Oh, and the solution will not be to wait for the PS3. It will overheat too in the same coniditions. Get over it, and properly ventilate your xbox360. I did, and it hasn't crashed yet. The xbox360 is not defective, but 20% of it's users are.

IDIOTS.......if u look at all the tech and load you put on the machine for it to do what u want...it has GOT to have air, I build CPUs and for the graphics, speed, etc the damn thing has too be cooled so your boards dont fry, read the directions on your xbox and give it some breathing room, if they put fans in to cool it it would be twice the size....you couldnt breath well closed up in a cheap ass wal-mart entertainment center either....I would bet most of you whiners have the damn thing sitting on top of or under your hot TV or have your dirty laundry you havent taken to mama clutered all around it. shut up and live with the reality that IT DONT ALL EXIST JUST FOR YOU....take care of your stuff and do what the directions say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i dont have a 360, my gaming group of 6 and myself love our xbox and were anxiously awaiting the 360. (but not going to preorder) because when we did that for the original xbox we had to also order 3 games we really didnt want jacking up the cost. only to walk into wal-mart later that day and find the individual system for sale). well anyway my point is that microsoft has lost all 6 of us. we searched and searched the stores to get 360's . only to hear we'd have to wait until at least february.!! what!!! we all agreed f that! if this is the way we are treated after pumping thousands into the original xbox and games then we'll wait and make an informed decision after the ps3 comes out. so chalk up a couple thousand $$$$$$ more lost to microsoft just in our group alone. microsoft- you really messed up this time as i'm sure that we are not the only loyal customers you have pissed off.

We have had our Xbox 360 since christmas and today when powered on we got three red error lights. After multiple reboots and speaking with tech support for 30 min's it has to be returned for repair. Very disappointing for such an expensive game system. Microsoft should have spent more time testing these systems. I hope that at the very least Microsoft extends the warrenty from 90 days to at least a year.

I was one of the unlucky ones to actually purchase a 360 the day it was released. The system worked okay for about three weeks then crashed (one light error) after 10 minutes of play. To make matters worse, it has been a nightmare just to get my system repaired or replaced. The 360 console was sent back to Microsft support for repair over two weeks ago and haven't seen it since. I have been following up diligently with MS suport only to find out now they do not know the whereabouts of my system....frustating to say the least. I would hold off on purchasing a 360 until MS gets there act together.

About two weeks ago, we scored a core system that was "magically" left over at EB Games. I went ahead and also bought the HDD, along with Halo 2, Quake 4 and Call of Duty 2. My son was getting a lot of quality gaming time with the system and everything seemed to work flawlessly right out of the box. Then a few days ago the console froze when he was playing Halo 2. He turned the console off, waited a few minutes, and when he turned it back on, there were three red lights flashing on the two left and lower right quadrants of the power button - and no picture. We went out to www.xbox.com/support and found instructions suggesting that we try disconnecting everything, then rebooting, then also removing the HDD and rebooting; the red lights continued to stay on and flash. I called technical support and was told that we would have to return the Xbox 360 to Microsoft and that they would either repair or replace it. The support guy also said it would take up to two weeks to get the unit returned. I'm grateful that Microsoft is honoring their warranty by paying for everything including shipping, but this is a joke. How could a brand new unit need repairs unless it was total junk? It has to be the DVD drive because their are no other moving parts. Anyhow, the whole episode is a total bummer, especially for my son. I'm sure Microsoft knew that a certain percentage of their consoles would break for specific reasons and they decided the risks of releasing the system anyway were acceptable. D. Bunch

I also purchased an xbox 360 on release day it worked for 4 weeks then the 3 lights on the ring of light showed up. I checked everything rebooted machine, took hd off, took cable's out and put back in no joy. I sent back to microsoft on Tuesday 17/01/06 i got a console back on Friday 20/01/06 it was'nt my original console i thought it was a brand new one. Until i looked a psu and realised it was just one of the many that had been fixed or had it? I set my system up recalled my gamertag and setup high def on my new tv. All seemed fine until i played Project gotham racing 3 it froze and said the game was maybe not the correct region for this console. I live in the UK and all my games are PAL versions, to start with i thought the console i had been sent back was a american or jap console. But now i have tried all my games and it seems to be most of them are bombing out, i think the dvd rom is spinning and not reading the disks properly. As you can imagine i am getting to the point that i feel like hitting it with a sledgehammer. I think microsoft although they are quick to respond to calls and get problems sorted out there is some problems within the repair centre's also if i have recieved another faulty machine.

I honestly dont see what certain people are complaining about, mine runs flawlessly. That's about all I have to say about it, people that are experiencing glitches need to just grin and bare it, or get a new one when supplys permit... Complaining and annoying the rest of the world isnt helping.

Listen you idiots. This is the FACT!!! XBOX 360'S WILL rash if you dont keep the back of it and the power pack well ventilated. 360's DO NOT have a GLITCH and Microsoft have not screwed up! If you have a PS2's fan or an Xboxs fan at the back of the console closed up in a tight space it wil overheat and crash exactly the same as the Xbox360 it is NORMAL. It is like any other console but it has AMAZING NEXT-GEN GRAPHICS, WIRELESS CONTROLLERS, ENOURMOUS HARD DISK SPACE, BUILT IN GAMES AND DEMOS AND VIDEOS AND MUSIC, BRILLIANT GAMES and BRILLIANT X-BOX LIVE GAMEPLAY!!! SHUT UP WHINING AND MOVE YOU XBOX 360... + XBOX 360'S AND PS3'S ARE EXACTLY THE SAME LIKE PS2'S AND XBOX 360'S SO SHUT UP AND PLAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of course MSFT new they were releasing a "rushed" product" , but the fact that they are who they are means they can deal with the repurcussions. Plus now Bill has his system out and he can worry about replacing systems, making games and building accessories so he can be a step ahead of the industry. Sound familiar? Way to go Bill, Brilliant business decision!!!
