Pioneer Electronics' plasma display panels (PDPs) are known for their premium features and eye-pleasing image quality, but their price tags, well, aren't what attracts potential customers. But this doesn't stop Pioneer from expanding its elite line of plasma tvs, like the PDP-5050HD with a list price of $9,000. Putting the high price aside, the PDP-5050HD panel showcases a generous 1,280-by-768 pixels on a 50-inch screen. One of the most significant new features to come from Pioneer is the replacement of the glass front filter with a non-glass (optical-grade plastic) filter, which helps to reduce visible reflections while improving the black levels to form a well-contrasted picture. (Not too shabby.) PC Magazine recently reviewed the 5050HD and found some not-so-satisfying things when testing its picture quality while watching a DVD. Find out more.
