Gizmondo WidescreenTiger Telematics has confirmed widespread rumors of a new, widescreen version of the Windows CE-based Gizmondo game console. Dubbed "Gizmondo Widescreen," the new device is real, and will be officially unveiled at the January Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the company says.

The original Gizmondo, which is described as a multifunction entertainment gadget that combines GPRS wireless communications, an MPEG4 decoder, a digital camera, and GPS, has yet to launch in North America.

The new model has a 4-inch "razor-sharp" display with 480 x 272 pixel resolution, according to the company. Additionally, the device will have at least a 500 MHz processor and "significantly" more memory. It will run Windows CE 5.0 with support for DRM (digital rights management) 10 and .NET compact framework 2.0.
